About Dom

Dominique Gonzalez Tomlin, a standout libero for Penn State’s 2014 NCAA National Championship team, transitioned into coaching after her playing career. She started at Kent State as an assistant coach, focusing on player development, and later joined the University of Michigan’s coaching staff. Gonzalez then moved to UTSA, where she continued to build her coaching resume. Currently, she serves as Assistant Director and Director of Player Development at Alamo Volleyball Association in San Antonio, Texas, where she specializes in defensive training and runs clinics for aspiring athletes.

Starts with Effort

Dom believes that effort is a non-negotiable. “Effort is required for every ball, every time,” she emphasizes. While skills can be taught and refined, the willingness to give 100% effort on every play comes from within.

Another key value for Dom is coachability. She explains, “At most, I should only need to tell you once or twice to make an adjustment. It may not be perfect every time, but what matters is that you’re making an effort to change and improve.” This approach creates a learning environment where growth is a continuous process, driven by both effort and a willingness to listen and adapt.
